The Auglaize County Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) is hiring for a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Nurse (RN) as a Certifying Health Professional.

Role and Responsibilities:

Under direct supervision of the WIC Director duties/responsibilities may include; determine client qualifications for the WIC program; provide nutrition education and counseling to income-eligible women (pregnant, breastfeeding, and post-partum), infants, and children up to the age of five years; promote and support breastfeeding; conduct nutrition assessments; document notes in participant charts; assign risk codes and appropriate food packages; issue breast pumps; follow WIC Policies and Procedures; prepare educational materials; conduct outreach activities; refer clients to other services; obtain anthropometric measurements; conduct hemoglobin tests; perform clerical duties as needed; attend meetings and complete required trainings; accepting referrals of high-risk participants, reviewing charts, and reviewing and approving education plans and materials developed; assist with social media posts, developing educational outreach; and other duties as assigned.

Experience/Education Requirements:

Certifying Health Professional will have a Bachelor’s degree or higher in nutrition/dietetics program approved by the Ohio Board of Dietetics OR an Associate’s degree or higher in Nursing, and one (1) year experience in the WIC Program, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Knowledge of lactation management preferred. Maintain registration with the American Dietetic Association; maintain Dietitian license or Registered Nurse license; Skilled in working with computers and the public. Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license. Required to have regular and predictable attendance. Candidates not already Certified Lactation Specialist (CLS) are expected to obtain certification after hire.

Salary:

Starting rate $21.20/hour; salary may be adjustable based on experience, education, and certifications.

Work Status:

4 days per week

Opinions Wanted: Household Sewage System Operation & Maintenance Program

Opinions Wanted!

If you own a home, in Auglaize County, that has it's own sewage system, we are looking for your input. There is an Ohio requirement that all household sewage systems have an Operation and Maintenance permit. This means that there needs to be an active permit at all times each house is occupied. It would have to be renewed periodically to utilize the sewage system. We want to make this program beneficial, while ensuring it is cost effective and minimally invasive. At this time, we want your opinion about how the program will be designed.

Ohio Department of Health Director Encourages Precautions Amid Unhealthy Air Quality

COLUMBUS – Ohio Department of Health (ODH) Director Bruce Vanderhoff, MD, MBA, is once again encouraging Ohioans to be aware of possible health effects, as smoke from Canadian wildfires is causing poor air quality in the state.

For the second time in three weeks, the wildfire smoke has created unhealthy conditions in Ohio, according to AirNow.gov .

“It is important to take poor air quality seriously, as exposure to smoke can cause health problems,” Dr. Vanderhoff said. “Certain groups of people are at higher risk, such as those with chronic heart or lung disease, children, the elderly, and pregnant women. Please take precautions until these conditions improve.”

Smoke from wildfires contains particulates. Particulates can be inhaled into your lungs and cause irritation of the eyes, nose or throat, coughing, shortness of breath, and chest pain; and can also aggravate chronic heart and lung conditions.

The most important precaution is to limit outdoor activity, especially outdoor exercise, and spend more time indoors.

Other precautions include:

Spend time in a room you can close off from outside air.
Avoid using candles, gas, propane, wood-burning stoves, fireplaces, and aerosol sprays. Smoking tobacco products and vacuuming may worsen indoor air pollution.
If you have a central air conditioning system, use high efficiency filters to capture fine particles from smoke. If your system has a fresh air intake, set the system to recirculate mode or close the outdoor intake damper.
Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. If your eyes, nose or throat are irritated, running a humidifier may provide some relief.

It also is important to check in on anyone who is more at risk and to carefully monitor children.

Those with asthma are encouraged to carefully follow your asthma action plan, if you have one. Make sure you have enough medication for several days.

Those with heart disease or COPD should pay close attention to symptoms such as chest pain or tightness, a fast heartbeat, feeling more out of breath than usual, or extreme fatigue. Contact your doctor, or if symptoms are severe, call 9-1-1.

PHAB is the non-profit organization that administers the national accreditation program for Tribal, state, local, and territorial health department s. To receive accreditation, a health department must undergo a rigorous, multi-faceted, peer-reviewed assessment to ensure it meets or exceeds a set of quality standards and measures.

We have received our shipment of the Moderna Bivalent COVID-19 booster and are now taking appointments.

Please be reminded that the Moderna Bivalent booster is only for individuals 18 years and older. To receive the Bivalent booster it must have been at least 2 months since your last booster or last dose of your primary series.
