SEXUAL HARASSMENT

Sexual harassment is defined as deliberate unwanted sexual advances, or unwanted visual, verbal, or physical contact of a sexual nature and includes the following:

· Propositioning or repeatedly asking someone out for a date after it is clear that the person is not interested

· Making or threatening reprisals after receiving a negative response to sexual advances

· Leering, Making sexual gestures, or displaying sexually suggestive objects such as pictures, cartoons, or posters

· Making or using derogatory comments, epithets, slurs, or jokes or making sexually based remarks about another person’s or one’s own body

· Graphic verbal commentaries about an individual’s body; sexually degrading words used to describe an individual; or suggestive or obscene letters, notes or invitations

· Touching, assault, impeding or blocking movement

When unwelcome activities occur such as those described above, the best thing to do is to say that you are uncomfortable with the behavior and ask that it cease.  If the behavior does not cease, than contact the school counseling office or any school administrator.

If you are guilty of making someone feel uncomfortable because of his/her sex, the police must be notified.
