ABSTINENCE

Text Box: TEEN YELLOW PAGES

ABSTINENCE means going without something voluntarily.  CHASTITY is abstaining from sexual intercourse.

Teen pregnancies many times result in unhealthy babies, futures with low wage jobs, broken education plans, and repeat teen pregnancies.   There are over 50 sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).  Sexually transmitted diseases can go undetected and result in sterility and shame.   Sexual abstinence or chastity is the only 100% effective method of preventing pregnancy and STDs.

The loss of self-respect is high among sexually active teens.   Early sexual experimentation often leads to disillusionment, despair, pain, and rejection.  Sex is not just a physical act, it involves the mental, emotional, social and spiritual aspects of teens’ lives.   By avoiding sexual encounters before marriage, you can also eliminate problems with sexual comparisons and memories that may destroy the marriage relationship.   Since you can not put a condom on your heart, sexual abstinence is the best decision and commitment for teens.

For encouragement in your decision for sexual abstinence talk with your local clergy or school counselors.
